The high summer solstice sees the Eroica Britannia Vintage and Cycling Festival camp return to The Peak District National Park for a fourth year. Putting down roots amongst 100 acres of wild vistas, big skies and romantic woodlands, this year means friends, families and kids roam wild and free over three-days of live music starring 80’s legends ABC and funk-master Norman Jay MBE, acres of shopping, luxe gin bars and gourmet pubs, and dressing-up contests. The Adventure Kids Club is Blyton-esque getting back to nature with a boisterous weekend of ‘The Great British Beach, campfire craft, den building and stargazing. The main event of the weekend – ‘The World’s Most Handsome Bike Ride’ sets off on a Great British Adventure, on tracks, trail, hill and dale early on Sunday 18th June on retro pre-1987 road bikes with matching heritage threads for a sensory plunge into rural exploration over 25 miles for families and pub crawlers and the stiff-upper-lip-inducing challenges of 55 and 100 miles of pure Great Britishness.
All ‘off-roads’ lead back to Friden Grange via the former train lines of The High Peak railway. Then it’s all back for gin and ice-cream at the Festival in the mid-summer sun where crowds of tens-of-thousands flag-waving spectators welcome 4,500 riders back over the line on easy-on-the-eye tandems, hat-raising penny farthings and handsome matching teams of guys and gals.
Bring the kids, bring your dogs, bring your spirit of adventure. It is without doubt, a fine vintage.
