Time is running out to get your hands on the final 100 places available for the 110km route at the 2017 VELOTHON Wales on Sunday 9th July.
Wales’ largest cycling event offers a choice of two routes, the 140km and 110 – with the latter now close to its capacity.
The 110, which offers close to half the elevation of the 140km route still provides the same VELOTHON Wales experience – taking in fully closed roads and some of Wales’ most breathtaking scenery, but avoiding the treacherous Tumble hill climb.
You can still be part of an unforgettable day of cycling without worrying about whether you’ll make it up the Tumble by entering the 110, but you’ll need to act fast to get your hands on one of 100 final places!
Cyclists will leave Cardiff to the east, heading through Newport and Usk before turning south towards Pontypool and Newbridge on its way to Caerphilly for the only climb up the stunning Caerphilly mountain. The climax is a fast descent towards the finish line in the heart of Cardiff.
Nigel Russell, Event Director, VELOTHON Wales commented: “VELOTHON Wales is fast becoming a major event on the Welsh sporting calendar and excitement is building as we close in on this year’s race.
“We want cyclists of all abilities to be able to take part in what promises to be an unforgettable day, and have been encouraged by the take-up for the 110km route amongst less experienced riders and first-timers.”
If you’re up for a challenge, there is still time to join some of the world’s best pro riders on our unforgiving 140km route. Beat the Tumble before climbing Caerphilly mountain and heading back down to the iconic Welsh capital for a sprint finish.
Although the short course route has been altered slightly to alleviate a road closure pressure point, and is now slightly longer than the originally advertised 110km, the cut-off point is commensurate to the actual length of the course, and the elevation remains at half that of the 140km route and appeals to everyone, whatever their goal or fitness!
If you want to challenge yourself at this year’s event, head over to www.velothon.com/events/velothon-wales/enter-now to sign up for the VELOTHON 110 before it’s too late! Entries remain available in the VELOTHON 140.
