Cycling in the SouthWest of Germany


Whether beginner, seasoned road cyclist, or expert downhiller – the Baden area in SouthWest Germany offers over 8,500km of cycling routes, and much more, when you touch down at Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden Airport – the gateway to the Black Forest.

In the Black Forest, nature is not just the backdrop to your vacation, visitors can be sure that experiencing the great outdoors will be the main event – with cyclists and bike enthusiasts of all levels able to find conditions that suit them.

Numerous family-friendly cycle paths run through the Black Forest that avoid busy roads and are easily combined with public transport options for when little legs get tired!

If you are looking for a more sporting challenge on two wheels, then look no further than the mountain bike trail centres at Murg/Enztal and Horingrinde-Ortenau.

The Murg and Enz Valley Mountain Bike Trail Area (Mountainbikearena Murg-/Enztal) offers mountain bikers idyllic Black Forest scenery on routes covering a total of 1000km. You’ll take in glistening streams of the clearest water, remote valleys between the mighty pine forests, as well as fantastic views, and natural springs and lakes. The trails offer serious climbs, high-speed descents, challenging single-track routes, and all this on ever-changing terrain.

The Hornisgrinde-Ortenau Mountain Bike Trail Area (Mountainbikearena Hornisgrinde-Ortenau) offers 20 routes, across all levels, adding up to a total of 500km. Here you can ride through picturesque vineyards and lush fields and meadows whilst conquering steep ascents and daring downhill sections.

Rounding off the range of cycling and biking activities and services on offer are various suggested trails complete with GPS unit for easy navigation, a specialist mountain biking map of the area, guided rides, a downhill park, bike hire, and of course bike-friendly accommodation.
